From 4 to 7 July 2019, Brussels hosted the Grand Départ of the Tour de France, the world’s third most-watched sporting competition. The event paid tribute to cycling legend Eddy Merckx and attracted a million spectators, showcasing the Belgian capital on the international stage. Amidst the strong emotions and public celebrations, the occasion highlighted Brussels’s heritage, hospitality and diversity.
Staged with the support of numerous partners, the Grand Départ helped to promote cycling, the symbol of a city with a sustainable future.
